A collaborative international research article was just published in the November 2025 issue of Annals of the Child Neurology Society.ย ย Every single contributor to this paper deserves our thanks as this information our community has needed for a long time. This paper will be referred to by every AHC patient for years to come.
The paper investigated three important hypotheses: (1) AHC worsens over time; (2) several novel factors correlate with longโterm outcomes; and (3) AHC manifests high mortality. In a large study of 115 patients (0.3โ46.0 years old, 9 centers/5 countries),they were evaluated using a standardized protocol and validated scales. They identified several novel prognostic indicators and a mortality rate, which provide critical information not only regarding prognostication, counseling, and underlying pathophysiology but also for planning therapeutic studies.
