A collaborative international research article was just published in the November 2025 issue of Annals of the Child Neurology Society.  Every single contributor to this paper deserves our thanks as this information our community has needed for a long time. This paper will be referred to by every AHC patient for years to come.
The paper investigated three important hypotheses: (1) AHC worsens over time; (2) several novel factors correlate with long‐term outcomes; and (3) AHC manifests high mortality. In a large study of 115 patients (0.3–46.0 years old, 9 centers/5 countries),they were evaluated using a standardized protocol and validated scales. They identified several novel prognostic indicators and a mortality rate, which provide critical information not only regarding prognostication, counseling, and underlying pathophysiology but also for planning therapeutic studies.
